What is Osteopathic Manual Therapy?

Osteopathic Manual Therapy follows a set of principles and emphasizes the interrelationship between the alignment of structure and the function of the body. Intrinsically, osteopathy believes in the body's ability to self-heal and self-regulate.

Osteopathy was introduced by founder Dr. A.T. Still in the 1870's and has grown exponentially in popularity through its success with patients of all ages and backgrounds.  Osteopathy is a science, a philosophy, and a practice that focuses on facilitating the health of joints and muscles through non-invasive manual therapy, helping to strengthen the framework of the body.

By working with the interrelated systems and functions of the human body, osteopathic manual therapy can help return the body to normal health.

What to expect for your first treatment

All of us at Grimsby Osteopathy want you to feel safe and comfortable during your time at the clinic. Your osteopathic practitioner will first speak with you about your health history and any current conditions you have. We will then proceed with a hands-on assessment to begin to understand how your body is moving and how we can help. We will render an individualized treatment that may involve the gentle manipulation of the fascia, muscles, and joints of your body. We will then discuss an individualized treatment plan for your specific case and will continue to re-evaluate these goals at all of your following appointments to ensure your health and progress is at the forefront.
